Walford and Prince Alfred College take honours at prestigious Head of the River at West Lakes

WALFORD and Prince Alfred College reigned supreme at Saturday's Head of the River regatta.

The schools' all-conquering First VIII crews dominated the girls' and boys' feature races respectively.

Walford's girls' crew, fresh off a landmark second-place finish at the recent national championships, cleared out in the First VIII race at West Lakes and, by the 500m mark, it was evident Scotch College was the only crew capable of challenging it.

Walford showcased the depth of its program, with its Second VIII finishing third in the feature race.

The Walford program is managed by Victoria Spencer, a junior national coach, who also has a role assisting young Australian rowers selected for US scholarships.
